Manta rays are the fourth species of animal available in the Ocean Zoo. Manta rays are flying animals. There are 8 different types of manta ray.

Behaviour

• Wild: Manta rays move relatively slowly slightly above the ground.
• When ridden: Manta rays swim up and fly at a fast pace above the stampede.
• When angry: Manta rays swoop repeatedly in an attempt to throw the player off, returning to their original height every swoop.
• In habitat: Manta rays swim around and hop once from time to time.
• Selected in habitat: Manta rays fly up and swim downwards from side to side to their original position, like a falling leaf.

Tips

Manta rays are a very useful animal in the game. Their ability to fly briefly allows them to glide over most obstacles and other animals is highly useful as they are pretty much invulnerable in the air. However, when in the air, the player cannot get oxygen bubbles, so they cannot extend their oxygen timer when the manta ray is in the air. At level 7, manta rays give the player an extra 2 seconds of oxygen when ridden, which can somewhat compensate the cost of being above the oxygen bubbles.

Habitat Upgrades

• Level 1 - Ride for an extra 1s before a manta ray gets angry
• Level 2 - Get bonus coins for diving on manta rays
• Level 3 - 2x more manta rays in the stampede
• Level 4 - Takes longer for manta rays to dive at full speed
• Level 5 - Gain 50% more ticket money from manta rays
• Level 6 - Gets 2s of bonus oxygen when landing on manta rays
• Level 7 - Ride for an extra 1s before a manta ray gets angry
• Level 8 - Jumping from a manta ray temporarily increases lasso size by 20%
• Level 9 - 1x more rare manta rays in the stampede

Trivia

• Giraffes, eels and manta rays are the only animals that don't make sounds when they are tapped.

Notes

• Manta rays were released in version 2.3.0 on the 16th of June 2022.
• Several level upgrades have errors, where the word "Manta" is not supposed to be capitalised.
  • This was corrected on version 2.8.0 on the 19th of September 2022.
• The level 9 manta ray habitat upgrade is an error, with its effect being trivial.
