The Western Gorilla is the first gorilla that the player can discover in the game, and possibly the first animal befriended in Jungle.

Appearance

The Western Gorilla resembles a real life western gorilla, with dark brown hair covering most of its body. Its chest, hands, feet, and the front of its head are the only exceptions, being coloured a light yellow. It has two muscular arms, two short stubby legs and a six pack lining its chest. Its head is squarish in shape, and its face, with its two small eyes and comically large mouth, appears to have a slightly dumb expression on it. Its back is slightly faded, representing the silvering of the fur on the back of real life western gorillas.

Description

Its powerful arms allow it to vault over obstacles and lay the smackdown. Truly a great ape.

• The Western Gorilla is based on a real-life western gorilla.
  • The Western Gorilla is one of two animals that reference a real life gorilla, the other being the Mountain Gorilla.
• The Western Gorilla's description references its in-game behaviour.
  • The Baby Western Gorilla's abilities also references the Western Gorilla's in-game behaviour.
  • The second sentence of the description plays on how gorillas are classified as great apes, a class of ape that also includes chimpanzees, orang-utans and humans. The description implies that the Western Gorilla is literally "great".
    • This sentence has been linked to Harambe, a western lowland gorilla shot and killed in Cincinnati Zoo after a 3 year old boy fell into its habitat, although the description had been written before the incident occurred.

Notes

• The Western Gorilla was released in the original release, version 1.0.0, on the 22nd of June 2016, along with Savannah and all original Savannah animals, Jungle and all other original Jungle animals, and the Sky Zoo.
• The Western Gorilla appears in the Tiger Lily boss mission.
• The Western Gorilla's description was different in the soft launch. It once read "The most common species of gorilla."
